The year of the Zentangle

I have been dabbling with zentangles for a couple of years now and although I love the process and I love the finished project, it has always bothered me that I didn't know what to do with them when they were finished. In early January, I got a great idea that has not only given me a reason to zentangle but has inspired my tangles into new heights!  I come from a very large family, so I went through the process of gathering alllll of their birthdays with a plan that I would create a zentangle piece to send to everyone on their birthday! Of course, these zentangles would have to be customized to the person... for example, my niece is pregnant with her 2nd child so it only seemed natural to create a zentangle that included motherhood for her, my cousin loves to sing so a musical tangle was in order for her...and so on.
I have never been the 4x4 tile type of zentangler. I like bigger projects. My tangles have always been 8x11 size. With that in mind, I decided to create zentangles for my friends/family that they could ultimately frame. However, I would need big envelopes to mail these tangles in. Found some 9x12 envelopes in white.....hmmmm white- a blank canvas. Ultimately I was  inspired to design the piece AND the envelope. I wanted to make these envelopes something special..that would be fun to show up in your mail box using my gel pens and some zentangle like techniques.  This blog is all about showing the tangles I have created..:)  Hope you enjoy!

Zentangle -Home is where you hang your heart

This tangle was originally created in 8x10 format. It is a border-to-border piece.

Zentangle- Shine On

This is one of my very favorites. I love everything about it!I made this for my cousin's daughter, Jandi.

Zentangle - The Mother

I made this one for my cousin's daughter, Amy, who is pregnant with her 2nd child. Love love love this one.

Zentangle The tree...

Ummmm hate the background ..the tangles are good I just don't like the uniformity. Waste of a good tree and a good quote. lol

Zentangle Music speaks

I made this one for my Uncle Karl-- the musician of our family. He and I share a birthday!

Zentangle Off to Great places!

Ugh...there's a fatal flaw in this one that I can't get past! Can you find it?

Zentangle Follow your dreams

This one seemed so much better in my head. I wanted the ribbons to be a roadway that would play into the message of the piece, but somehow those little dashed lines in the road totally took away the *pop* of the negative space.

Zentangle - Love tangle

My cousin, DeeDee, has been a fan of my zentangles for a while now. She married this past November and I plan to give this to her for her birthday in February.

Zentangle - Rejoice

My daughter asked me to make one for her living room wall that was inspired by her Christianity. I think it's beautiful.

Zentangle - You are you

My cousin Kari, opened her very own mental health clinic and I wanted to recognize such a huge accomplishment. I thought this one spoke not only to her...but if framed in her new office would speak to her clients as well.

Zentangle- Be Still and Know that I am God

I had begun another one for my cousin, Hannah, but just after her birthday, there was a crisis in her family and I was inspired to create this one instead. Inside the sun is the Lord's Prayer.

Zentangle- Why fit in?

Made this for my Aunt Judy in mid January. I love the whimsy of it.

Zentangle- Music is love

I made this one for my cousin, Brenda. Inspired by her passion for music.

Zentangle - What grows

This was a piece I did for my step-mother and was inspired by her garden.

Zentangle- There is Love

"There is love". Completed January 2014
